106th Indian Science Congress

Why in news?

• The 106th edition of the Indian Science Congress (ISC) started off at Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, Punjab.
• The inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi saw the attendance of 20,000 scientists from 60 countries across the world.

Who are present at the Indian Science Congress 2019?

• Apart from the Nobel Prize winners, Union Cabinet ministers — including Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan and Textile Minister Smriti Irani — will also attend the event.
• Eminent scientists from Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Science and Technology, University Grants Commission and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) are also slated to take part in the science congress.

About ‘Jai Anusansadhan’

• In 1970, Acharya JC Bose established India’s first dedicated scientific research center, the Bose institute at Kolkata.
• His inaugural speech was a reflection of his holistic views of science. He said he dedicate today, this institute, not merely a laboratory, but a temple to the nation.
• 20 years ago, in a historic address at Pokhran, our great PM Atal ji had recognised the contributions of science and technology for India.
• He add ‘Jai anusandhan’, therefore the slogan now becomes Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan’
