Punit Goenka is the new Chairman of Broadcast Audience Research Council of India

Punit will be taking over from Nakul Chopra after his one year tenure as Chairman

• The MD and CEO of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited , Punit Goenka has been elected as the new chairman of Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC), a new Chairman of TV Viewership measurement company, BARC India by the Board at its meeting held on 29th January.
• Punit Goenka was the founder chairman of BARC India and played an instrumental role in setting up of the TV Viewership measurement company. It was under his leadership that BARC India established its measurement system.
• Mr.Goenka expressed that it is a honour to him as he is re-elected to BARC as Chairman. The company has grown and evolved over the years under the able chairmanship of Sudhanshu and Nakul. Partho and his highly talented team have been able to achieve what we had all set out to.

What is BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council)?

• Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India is a Joint Industry Company founded by stakeholder bodies that represent Broadcasters, Advertisers, and Advertising and Media Agencies.
• Built upon a robust and future-ready technology backbone, BARC India owns and manages a transparent, accurate, and inclusive TV audience measurement system.
• The BARC India system captures data about TV content consumed through any form of distribution – Terrestrial, DTH , Analog Cable, Digital Cable and Digital.
• BARC India has an audit mechanism in place to ensure its internal processes and Government guidelines are being followed.
• BARC India uses an advanced, audience measurement technique – audio watermarking, to track content through its broadcast cycle. This is a code inserted into the audio channel of the television signal which transmits through the distribution platforms and cannot be, either deleted or overwritten in the cryptographic family it adopts.
• Apart from the currency products to the TV industry, BARC India also provides a suite of Insight products designed for Broadcasters, Advertisers and Agencies.

Who is Punit Goenka?

(1) Punit Goenka is an Indian entrepreneur in Goenka family’s Essel Group. He is one of two sons of Indian mogul Subhash Chandra, chairman of Essel Group.
(2) He is currently the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Zee Entertainment Enterprises.
(3) He was elected as the President of Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) in the September, 2016 for a period of one year.
