Supersonic cruise missile brahmos test fired

Supersonic cruise missile BrahMos was test fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Odisha. The anti-ship version of the missile was launched around noon from the launch complex-3 of the ITR, Defence Research and Development (DRDO) sources said.

• The name of the BrahMos missile is made by adding two river names, this name is made by combining the names of the Indian river “Brahmaputra” and the Russian “Moskva” river.
• The range of this missile is about 290 kilometers.
• Brahmos is a medium range supersonic cruise missile, it can be fired by submarines, sea vessels, fighter aircraft and ground.
• Brahmos is a joint venture between Russia’s NPO and India’s DRDO.
• BrahMos missile has the ability to penetrate its target with a speed of 3 MAC (three times faster than sound).
• Currently working on up to 5 MAKs of its speed. This missile is based on the Russian missile P-800 Onix.

At present, the hyperSonic version of the BrahMos missile is being developed, this hyperosynchronous version will be able to penetrate the target at the speed of 7-8 MAC
