750 MW ultra mega solar plants is to be inaugurated by Narendra Modi in MP

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Asia’s largest solar power
  plant in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district on July 10, 2020
• The 750 MW ultra mega solar power plant is to be dedicated to the nation
  through video conferencing
• The Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project is located in the Rewa district of
  Madhya Pradesh. It has a total solar installed capacity of 750 MW

Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project

• The Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project is located in the Rewa district of
  Madhya Pradesh. It has a total solar installed capacity of 750 MW
• Spread over 1,590 acres of land, it is one of the largest single-site solar power
  plants in Asia
• A joint venture company by the name of Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited
  (RUMSL) was set up by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and
  Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikash Nigam Limited (MPUVNL) for the successful
  implementation of the project
• The total cost of the project is expected to be around Rs 4000 crore
• In January 2018, the World Bank had approved USD 30 million loan for the
  internal infrastructure of the project
• As per reports, around 24 percent of the power generated by the Rewa Ultra
  Mega Solar Plant will go to Delhi Metro Rail Services
• The entire cost of the Solar Power Project is worth around Rs 4000 crore
• International Finance Corporation (IFC) is the transaction adviser for the Solar
  Power Project
• Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is an institutional customer of the 750 MW Rewa
  Ultra Mega Solar Power Project
• 24 percent of the power generated by the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Plant will be
  supplied to Delhi Metro

Background of the Project

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the national goal to achieve 100 GW of
  solar power generation capacity by 2022 when India will complete 75 years of
  its Independence from British rule
• The inauguration of the mega solar power plants will be a forward step for India
  in realizing this goal and shifting dependence on more environment-friendly and
  renewable energy sources

What is “Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL)”?

• Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL), the implementing agency of the
  project, is a joint venture between the Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikash Nigam
  Limited (MPUVNL) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI)
• RUMSL selected developers based on 3 stage assessment  Technical Proposal,
  Financial Proposal, Reverse Auction. RUMSL conducted the bid and reverse
  auction process using the Electronic Tender portal hosted by the
  Telecommunication Consultants India Ltd (TCIL)
• PGCIL is developing the 220/400 kV Inter-state transmission system for Rewa
  Solar Power Plant to different power purchasers
• First project to get funding from Clean Technology Fund (CTF) in India

What is “Clean Technology Fund (CTF)”?

• The Clean Technology Fund (CTF), one of two multi-donor Trust Funds within
  the Climate Investment Funds (CIFs), promotes scaled-up financing for
  demonstration, deployment and transfer of low-carbon technologies with
  significant potential for long-term greenhouse gas emissions savings
• Channeled through the African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank,
  European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Inter-American
  Development Bank, and World Bank Group, the CTF finances 12 country
  programs and one regional program
