Recently a team of researchers at the Department of Biotechnology’s National Centre for Cell Science (DBT-NCCS) in Pune has been exploring ways to tackle miltefosine (a drug used to treat Leishmaniasis/Kala-azar) resistance. Visceral leishmaniasis, which is commonly known as Kala-azar in India, is fatal in over 95% of the cases if left untreated.
Mechanism of Resistance for Kala-azar
Haryana government and Reliance Jio TV have entered an agreement that is expected to benefit around 52 lakh school children in rural areas. This new agreement is done under the Chief Minister’s Distance Education Programme in order to expand education in rural areas without jeopardizing social distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Schools across the state were closed in the month of March 2020 following a nationwide lockdown to combat COVID-19, after 3 months, today it’s still uncertain on when the schools will re-open.
About the Agreement
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected a deeper 4.5% contraction for India in FY21 than earlier estimated, citing a longer lockdown period and slower than anticipated recovery.The international organization has called this a “historic low” for India. The contraction in the Indian economy will be due to the the COVID-19 pandemic.
IMF has forecasted that Indian economy will recover in the fiscal year 2022 with a growth rate of 6%. These projections has been stated by IMF in its latest World Economic Outlook titled “A Crisis like No Other, An Uncertain Outlook“.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) extended a special liquidity window for Rs 50,000 crores to Yes Bank for three months, to help private lenders cover for shortfall in deposits. The Yes bank was first provided with a special liquidity window for 3 months in March, which ended in June. The bank has requested for the same facility for one year, against which the RBI has extended for another 3 months.
The RBI has made the emergency credit line of nearly Rs 600 billion available when the bank was under a moratorium that restricted deposit withdrawals at 50,000 rupees. The capital infusion will help Yes Bank diversify its ownership, meet the regulatory requirement and fund its growth.
Karnataka Bank launched a new product ‘KBL Micro Mitra’ for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This product will provide financial assistance up to Rs 10 lakhs to the Micro manufacturing and service enterprises for working capital or for investment purposes. The facility has simplified procedure and competitive rate of interest. The product will be available across all branches of the bank & will be soon available in digital version.
The Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIAL), which operated the Kempegowda International Airport becomes the 1st airport in India, who installed an indigenously-developed Aviation Weather Monitoring System at its new runway on both ends. This new AWMS technology developed by Bengaluru-based CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL).
BIAL has also installed four Drishti transmissometers, which is additionally developed by NAL, in association with the India Metrological Department (IMD) to live the Runway Visibility Range (RVR). With this, BLR Airport now features a total of six Made in India RVRs at both runways.

Tripura ‘s Social Welfare and Social Education Minister has announced on 24th June 2020 that the State Government will launch an ambitious scheme named Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar under which nutrition Kits will be provided to pregnant and lactating women. The Central Government’s Pradhan Mantri Matru Bandana Yojana will also be applicable in the state for pregnant and lactating women.
Objective of the Scheme
A tripartite agreement was signed between a Chinese company and the governments of Pakistan and China for construction of a 1,124-megawatt hydropower project at Kohala on the Jhelum river at a cost of USD 2.4 billion. Pakistan PM termed the agreement “the country’s biggest-ever foreign investment”.
The Hydropower project is located near the villages of Siran and Barsala in Muzaffarabad district of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. The project is part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. The estimated cost of the project is USD 2,364 million and is expected to be completed by 2026.
