Barbados ditched Britain’s Queen Elizabeth as head of state, forging a new republic with its first-ever president and severing its last remaining colonial bonds nearly 400 years after the first English ships arrived at the Caribbean island.Barbados was declared a republic at midnight on 29 November 2021. Governor General Sandra Mason has been made the President of the country. He has been appointed by Queen Elizabeth II. Mason was sworn in as the first President of Barbados, Mason has also been Attorney and Judge. He has also served as ambassador to Venezuela, Colombia, Chile and Brazil.
