India and US organized 2+2 Defense and External Affairs talks in Washington. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar participated. The talks will be held with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. This will be the first such dialogue under the Biden administration. On 11 April 2022, PM Modi discussed the ongoing bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Took part in a virtual meeting with US President Joe Biden to review.
Topics such as the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the US were discussed in this dialogue. Other topics related to science, defence, technology, emerging technology, public health, climate, COVID-19 pandemic management, etc. were also discussed. It also gave importance to dialogue building and strengthening the supply chain. India also highlighted the rise in commodity prices due to the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh discussed major defense deals with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. India discussed in the meeting the purchase of 30 Predator armed drones. Also the tender by the Navy for 26 deck-based fighter aircraft for INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant was also discussed. A deal to buy six more P-8I maritime patrol aircraft was also discussed.
