The Supreme Court has sought the Centre’s response on a plea seeking permission for same-sex marriage under the Special Marriage Act. The Special Marriage Act of 1954 gives legal status to the marriage of couples who Cannot marry under personal law of religion. Supreme Court bench agrees to hear plea of homosexuals Supriya Chakraborty (Supriyo) and Abhay Dang. The petition states that non-recognition of same-sex marriage is discriminatory which strikes at the root of dignity and self-fulfillment of LGBTQ+ couples.
