IREDA inks MoU with NHPC to provide technical expertise in green energy

Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), under Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), has signed MoU with NHPC under Ministry of Power for providing technical expertise in developing renewable energy projects.

IREDA under this MoU will assist NHPC in developing an action plan to create and acquire Renewable Energy projects for the next five years.

Main point

• Under this agreement, NHPC will help in knowledge and technology transfer and provide consultancy and research services.
• NHPC has launched an ambitious plan to significantly impact the country’s renewable energy landscape.
• Under this scheme, NHPC will develop 7.5 GW renewable energy projects over the next 3 years.
• NHPC has already successfully commissioned a renewable capacity of 102.5 MW on an ownership basis and has also contracted 2000 MW on an intermediary basis.

NHPC Limited

• NHPC Limited was formed in 1975, it is a hydro power generation company.
• It was formed to plan and promote efficient development of hydroelectric power.
• Later NHPC also started work in other sources of energy such as geothermal, solar, wind, tides etc.
