Aditya Samant became India’s 83rd Chess Grandmaster

Aditya S Samant became the 83rd Chess Grandmaster of India. IM Samant, 17, became the GM as he started his ninth round game against compatriot Aryan Chopra in the Beelchess MTO 2023 tournament.
He had drawn his eighth round game against Bu Xiangjie and had to play in the ninth round to reach his final GM norm.
Samant, a player from Maharashtra, had already crossed the 2500 Elo mark in the live ratings and achieved two GM benchmarks.
Samant had a live rating of 2525.4 before his ninth round game. He earned his first GM norm last August at the Abu Dhabi Masters.
He achieved his second GM norm in December 2022 at the 3rd El Llobregat Open.
