Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on 26 July to pay tribute to the bravery of the Indian soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the country during the Kargil War 1999.
In 2023, it has been 24 years since the Kargil War. ‘Operation Vijay’ was fought by the Indian Army against Pakistan in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir which is now in Ladakh.
Kargil War Day is observed on 26 July because it was on this day in 1999 that Indian troops declared their victory over Pakistani Rangers after a nearly three-month-long armed battle on the snowy peaks of Kargil.
