First case of Zika in Mumbai
- The first case of Zika virus has been reported in a 79-year-old man living in M-West ward near Chembur in Mumbai.
- Zika virus is spread by the bite of the Aedes mosquito. It also spreads like chikungunya, yellow fever and dengue.
- Zika is spread mostly through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. These mosquitoes bite during day and night.
- Zika can pass from a pregnant woman to her fetus. Infection during pregnancy can cause some birth defects. There is no vaccine or medicine for Zika.
