- 23rd Council of Ministers’ Meeting will start on October 11, 2023, in Colombo.
- Sri Lanka will hold the chairmanship of the association from 2023 to 2025.
- Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister will hand over the chairmanship to Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister M.U.M. Ali Sabry.
- Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry said that member countries will hold discussions on collaboration in various sectors, including trade and investment, maritime safety and security, fisheries management, disaster risk management, etc.
- Foreign Ministers of Bangladesh, India, Iran, Mauritius, Malaysia and South Africa will attend the meeting.
- Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Ali Sabry will chair the Council. It is the highest decision body of IORA.
Indian Ocean Rim Association
- It is an inter-governmental organization formed in 1997 to foster regional economic cooperation.
- It consists of 23 countries bordering the Indian Ocean.
- It is based on the principles of Open Regionalism for strengthening Economic Cooperation.
- India is one of the founding members of IORA.
- The Secretariat of IORA is located at Ebene, Mauritius.
