BMC will impose a double property tax for Mumbai shops without Marathi signboards.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will impose a double property tax on shops without Marathi Devanagari script signboards in Mumbai from May 1, 2024.
The BMC has also stated that it will revoke the licenses of shops that lack Marathi lettering signboard.
This step has been taken by the Supreme Court’s directive and the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Rules.
The Supreme Court had given a two-month deadline of November 25, 2023, for shops and establishments to put up name boards in Marathi Devanagari script in bold letters.
The licenses of the glow sign boards without the Marathi script will be cancelled with immediate effect.
