- The state was called Keralam’ in Malayalam, and the demand to form a united Kerala for the Malayalam-speaking communities had strongly emerged since the national freedom struggle.
- Under Article 3 of the Constitution, Parliament has the authority to create new boundaries of states or can change the names of existing states.
- The change in the name of the official language would require a constitutional amendment.
