Union Fisheries Ministry’s Awards, Kerala was selected as the best marine state, and Kollam as the best marine district.
On the occasion of World Fisheries Day, Kerala has been adjudged the best marine state and Kollam the best marine district in the awards given by the Union Fisheries Ministry.
The state has been selected for the award in view of its extensive intervention in the fisheries sector.
Kerala’s record growth in marine fish production, unique schemes for the development of fishermen and the fisheries sector, and transparent and timely implementation of schemes launched by the Centre were some of the factors considered for the award.
The award reflects the State Government’s commitment towards sustainable development, welfare of fishermen communities and innovative initiatives.
These awards are in recognition of the steps taken by the Government for social development and inclusion of poor fishermen in the coastal areas.
