¨ Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the
Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility in Hyderabad, Telangana.
¨ The facility will serve as a global
maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) hub for LEAP (Leading Edge Aviation
Propulsion) engines.
¨ The establishment of SAESI marks a
significant milestone, as it is one of the largest aircraft engine MRO
facilities in the world.
¨ This is the first time a global engine OEM
(original equipment manufacturer) has set up MRO operations in India.
¨ The facility has been developed at a cost
of over ₹1,300 crore and is spread over 45,000 square meters.
¨ It is designed to service 300 LEAP engines
annually.
¨ Upon achieving full operational capability by
2035, this state-of-the-art facility will employ over a thousand highly-skilled
Indian technicians and engineers.
¨ LEAP engines power the Airbus A320neo and
Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
¨ The foundation stone for the M88 Military
Engine MRO was also laid during the event.
¨
This facility will support the Indian Air Force and Navy and enhance
self-reliance in the sector.
