  • Japanese actor Yakusho Koji has been honored with the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance in the film Perfect Days. The film is directed by Wim Wenders of Germany.
  • The Cannes Film Festival is one of the world’s three major film festivals, along with Venice and Berlin.
  • For the first time in 19 years, a Japanese actor has won this award. Yagira Yuya became the first Japanese to win the award in 2004 for his role in the film Nobody Knows. The film was directed by Koreida Hirokazu.
  • Japanese screenwriter Sakamoto Yuji won the Best Screenplay award for the film Monster. The film is also directed by Koreida Hirokazu.
  • The Palme d’Or, the top prize, went to the French mystery film Anatomy of the Fall, directed by Justin Trieu.
