  • Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Minister of State for Communications Devusingh Chauhan launched the pilot project of ‘Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha’ accident insurance scheme to ensure social security of workers.
  • The scheme was launched in Nadiad, Kheda district of Gujarat in collaboration with Department of Posts, India Post Payments Bank and Ministry of Labor and Employment for workers registered on e-Shram Portal.
  • With this, Gujarat has become the first state in the country to start this unique scheme on an experimental basis for the benefit of Shram Yogis.
  • Under the Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana, for a premium of Rs 289 and Rs 499, workers will get assistance in case of death or partial disability.
  • In case of death of a laborer in an accident, an assistance of Rs 10 lakh will be given to his successor. Apart from this, an amount of Rs 10 lakh will be given to the workers in case of permanent disability in the accident.
  • In the event of the death of the workers, their children will also be given education assistance of Rs 1 lakh. In this way, this scheme will prove to be very useful in empowering the laborers.
