  • The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has announced the launch date of the much-awaited mission Chandrayaan-3. Chandrayaan-3 will be launched on July 14 at 2:35 pm.
  • Earlier, the agency had fixed the date between July 12 and 19. Chandrayaan-3’s focus is on making a safe landing on the lunar surface.
  • ISRO Chairman S Somnath told that under the Chandrayaan-3 mission, ISRO will attempt a ‘soft landing’ on the Moon on August 23 or August 24. This will be another major success of India in the field of space.

Chandrayaan-2 mission

  • Chandrayaan-2 mission was launched on 22 July 2019. Chandrayaan-2 had traveled 30,844 lakh kilometers in 48 days. Rs 978 crore was spent on the mission.
  • After Chandrayaan-2, this mission is being sent for a safe landing on the surface of the Moon. Chandrayaan-2 mission failed in the last stage.
  • Its lander hit the Earth’s surface with a shock, after which it lost contact with the Earth’s control room. Chandrayaan-3 is being sent to complete the same incomplete mission.
