India is presiding over the G20 summit this year. This conference has been organized on 9 and 10 September at Bharat Mandapam of Pragati Maidan. For this, Bharat Mandapam along with Delhi has also been decorated in a very beautiful way. Heads of state of many countries and many guests have participated in it.

  • This time the theme of G20 Summit 2023 is Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. It means one earth, one family, one future.

  • This time India has made the earth its logo along with the lotus flower. This logo is of 3 colors, which is taken from the Indian flag. And these colors are- saffron, white, green and blue.

What is the motto of G20 Summit 2023?

  • India’s presidency of the G20 will prove helpful in strengthening trade ties with member countries and provide an opportunity to attract investments from those countries in sectors such as infrastructure.

Importance of G20 Summit 2023

  • G-20 is called Group of Twenty, this group has 19 member countries and the 20th member of the group is the European Union. The G-20 Summit is organized once a year, however, starting from 2008, the G-20 Summit was organized twice each in the years 2009 and 2010.
  • In this conference, the heads of state of the member countries of the group are invited and some other countries are also invited. After this, the heads of state of all the countries sit and discuss many issues.
  • This year, under the chairmanship of India, the G-20 conference is going to be held at Pragati Maidan in Delhi.

How many countries will participate in this G20 Summit?

  • This time 20 countries are participating in the G20 Summit 2023. Apart from India, the G-20 group includes France, China, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Argentina, America, UK, Turkey, South Korea, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Mexico, Japan, Italy, Indonesia and as the 20th member. The European Union is involved.
  • Presiding over the G-20 representing more than 80 percent of the global economy is a big opportunity for India.

First day of G20 summit (9 September)

  • 09:30-10:30 am Arrival of leaders and heads of delegations at the venue of the summit i.e. Bharat Mandapam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will welcome everyone.
  • The first session will be from 10:30-13:30. Lunch program after this.
  • Bilateral meetings will take place in the Bharat Mandapam from 13:30-15:00.
  • 15:00-16:45 Second session organized. After this everyone will return to their respective hotels.
  • 19:00-20:00 Leaders and heads of delegation will arrive for dinner.

What programs on the second day (10 September) in G-20

  • 8:15 am to 9:00 am – Arrival of leaders and heads of delegations at Rajghat and signing of the Peace Wall inside the Leaders Lounge at Rajghat.
  • 9:00 am to 9:20 am – Floral tributes will be offered at the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. Along with this, there will be a live performance of Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite devotional song.
  • 9:20 am – Leaders and key leaders of the delegation will leave for Bharat Mandapam.
  • 9:40 am to 10:15 am – Leaders and heads of delegation will arrive at the summit venue Bharat Mandapam.
  • 10:15 am to 10:28 am – Tree planting ceremony will be held in South Plaza, Level 2 of Bharat Mandapam.
  • 10:30 am to 12:30 pm – The third session of the summit will be ‘One Future’. This will happen in Bharat Mandapam, after which a joint statement will be issued.

First day session of G20 2023

  • The first session was also addressed by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Cyril Ramaphosa said, we are happy that the G20 has accepted the African Union as a member of the G20.
  • He said that developing economies are bearing the brunt of climate change. As African and other developing economies, we face the task of meeting our climate commitments amid significant developmental challenges such as poverty, inequality and unemployment.
  • Climate change, environmental degradation, unsustainable consumption and production and depletion of resources are challenges that can only be tackled collectively and with great solidarity.
  • He said, instead of dealing with the challenges of development, common people see billions of dollars being spent on weapons of war.
  • In particular, development partners need to meet their commitments to capacity building and infrastructure development in low- and middle-income countries.
  • No country is untouched by the effects of climate change. It is therefore vital that we respond to this existential crisis collectively, decisively and promptly.
  • It is important that industrialized countries, which have the means and bear the greatest responsibility for climate change, support sustainable development in developing economies.
