  • IPS officer Pravin Madhukar Pawar is appointed as Joint Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for five years.
  • He will be Joint Director of CBI from the date of assumption of charge until five years or till further orders, whichever is earlier.
  • The appointment has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
  • Earlier, Praveen Sood was appointed as the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for two years.
  • The director of CBI is appointed for a fixed tenure of two years by a committee including the prime minister, CJI, and the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha.

  • It was established on April 1, 1963, through a resolution of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • It was established on the recommendation of the Santhanam Committee.
  • It derives its powers from the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946.
  • Praveen Sood is the current director of the Central Bureau of Investigation.
