Animal Husbandry Statistics, 2023 has been released by the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying on National Milk Day.. The production of milk, egg, meat and wool in the country is estimated by the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying annually on the basis of the results of Integrated Sample Survey conducted across the country during three seasons – summer (March-June), rainy (July–October) and winter (November–February).
Milk Production
- Total milk production in India is estimated at 230.58 million tonnes in the year 2022-23, registering an increase of 22.81% over the last 5 years from 187.75 million tonnes in 2018-19.
- The highest milk producing state during the year 2022-23 is Uttar Pradesh (15.72%), followed by Rajasthan (14.44%), Madhya Pradesh (8.73%), Gujarat (7.49%) and Andhra Pradesh (6.70%)
- Annual Growth Rate (AGR) – The highest annual growth rate (AGR) compared to last year has been recorded in Karnataka (8.76%), followed by West Bengal (8.65%) and Uttar Pradesh (6.99%). .
Egg Production
- The total egg production in India is estimated at 138.38 billion in the year 2022-23.
- An increase of 33.31% has been recorded in the last 5 years during 2022-23 as compared to the estimate of 103.80 billion numbers during the year 2018-19.
- Highest egg producing state – Andhra Pradesh (20.13%) ranks first in egg production in India, followed by Tamil Nadu (15.58%), Telangana (12.77%), West Bengal (9.94%) and Karnataka (6.51%). .
- Annual Growth Rate (AGR) – The state with the highest growth rate in egg production is West Bengal (20.10%), followed by Sikkim (18.93%) and Uttar Pradesh (12.80%).
Meat Production
- The total meat production in India is estimated at 9.77 million tonnes in the year 2022-23, registering a growth of 20.39% over the last 5 years as compared to the estimate of 8.11 million tonnes in 2018-19.
- There was an increase of 5.13% in the year 2022-23 as compared to the year 2021-22.
- Highest meat producing state – Uttar Pradesh (12.20%) ranks first in meat production in India, followed by West Bengal (11.93%), Maharashtra (11.50%), Andhra Pradesh (11.20%) and Telangana (11.06%). .
- Annual Growth Rate (AGR) – The state with the highest annual growth rate (AGR) in meat production in India is Sikkim (63.08%), followed by Meghalaya (38.34%) and Goa (22.98%).
Wool Production
- The total wool production in India is estimated at 33.61 million kg during the year 2022-23, registering a negative growth of 16.84% over the last 5 years as compared to the estimate of 40.42 million kg during 2018-19.
- The production has increased by 2.12% in the year 2022-23 as compared to the year 2021-22.
- Wool Producing States – Rajasthan (47.98%) ranks first in wool production, followed by Jammu and Kashmir (22.55%), Gujarat (6.01%), Maharashtra (4.73%) and Himachal Pradesh (4.27%).
- Annual Growth Rate (AGR) – The state with the highest annual growth rate (AGR) in wool production is Arunachal Pradesh (35.75%), followed by Rajasthan (6.06%) and Jharkhand (2.36%).
