- 19th NAM summit started in Uganda’s Kampala on 19 January 2024.
- External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar is leading the Indian delegation.
- Minister of State for External Affairs, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh is representing India at the NAM Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
- The NAM Foreign Ministers’ meeting will precede the NAM Summit.
- Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri V. Muraleedharan will represent India at the G-77 Third South Summit.
- G-77 Third South Summit will be held in Kampala on 21-22 January.
- Dr. Jaishankar will then go to Nigeria on an official visit on 21st January.
- He will co-chair the 6th India-Nigeria Joint Commission Meeting with his counterpart.
Non-Aligned Movement
- Uganda is chairing the Non-Aligned Movement on behalf of Africa for the period 2022 to 2025.
- The concept of NAM emerged in the backdrop of World War II.
- The leaders of Yugoslavia, Egypt, India, Ghana and Indonesia agreed on the principles at the Bandung Conference in 1955.
- The first conference was held in Belgrade in 1961.
