  • ‘One Vehicle, One Fastag’ initiative launched by the National Highways Authority of India.
  • The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag initiative has been launched to increase the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and provide a seamless movement facility at toll plazas.
  • The initiative aims to discourage user behavior, such as using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags for a particular vehicle.
  • NHAI is also encouraging FASTag users to complete the latest FASTag ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) process by updating the KYC as per the Reserve Bank of India guidelines.
  • After January 31, 2024, Fastags with incomplete KYC along with outstanding funds will be deactivated/blacklisted by banks.
  • NHAI has taken this initiative following recent reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a particular vehicle and FASTags being issued without KYC in violation of the Reserve Bank of India order.
  • Additionally, FASTag is sometimes deliberately not affixed to the windscreen of the vehicle, resulting in unnecessary delays at toll plazas and inconvenience to other National Highway users.
  • FASTag has revolutionized the electronic toll collection system in the country with a penetration rate of about 98% and more than 8 crore users.
