‘One Vehicle, One Fastag’ initiative launched by the National Highways Authority of India.
The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag initiative has been launched to increase the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and provide a seamless movement facility at toll plazas.
The initiative aims to discourage user behavior, such as using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags for a particular vehicle.
NHAI is also encouraging FASTag users to complete the latest FASTag ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) process by updating the KYC as per the Reserve Bank of India guidelines.
After January 31, 2024, Fastags with incomplete KYC along with outstanding funds will be deactivated/blacklisted by banks.
NHAI has taken this initiative following recent reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a particular vehicle and FASTags being issued without KYC in violation of the Reserve Bank of India order.
Additionally, FASTag is sometimes deliberately not affixed to the windscreen of the vehicle, resulting in unnecessary delays at toll plazas and inconvenience to other National Highway users.
FASTag has revolutionized the electronic toll collection system in the country with a penetration rate of about 98% and more than 8 crore users.
