  • Mohammad Mustafa has been appointed as new prime minister of the Palestinian Authority.
  • Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has appointed Mustafa.
  • Mustafa replaces PM Mohammed Shtayyeh.
  • Along with his government, PM Mohammed Shtayyeh resigned in February.
  • The Palestinian Authority (PA) was established thirty years ago under the interim peace agreement called Oslo Accords.
  • It carries out limited governance over parts of the occupied West Bank.
  • It may also play an important role in administering Gaza after the end of the conflict with Israel.
  • PA lost control of Gaza to Hamas in 2007. Hamas is the Islamist movement that controls Gaza.
