ChatGPIT maker OpenAI and Microsoft are working on a data center project. According to reports, the cost of this project could be up to 100 billion dollars. This mainly includes Artificial Intelligence supercomputer. Its name will be Stargate. It has been said that it can be launched by 2028.
Stargate
- Companies Microsoft and OpenAI plan to build a series of supercomputers over the next six years. They aim to create the largest supercomputer, funded by Microsoft, which will cost about 100 times more than the biggest existing data centres.
- The proposed Stargate project is expected to launch in 2028, following OpenAI’s major AI upgrade in early 2022.
- The project could cost up to $100 billion, according to people involved in private discussions with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and others who viewed Microsoft’s initial cost estimates.
- The supercomputers are being divided into five phases, with Stargate as the fifth and current focus. Currently, a smaller fourth-phase supercomputer is in development and planned to launch in 2026. To complete the remaining phases, a significant amount of the cost will go towards purchasing necessary AI chips.
ChatGPT
- OpenAI created ChatGPT, a chatbot that was launched on November 30, 2022. ChatGPT uses a large language model that helps users guide conversations to their preferred length, format, style, detail level, and language.
- At each conversation stage, known as prompt engineering, ChatGPT considers successive prompts and replies as context.
- ChatGPT uses GPT-3.5 or GPT-4, which are created by OpenAI using transformer architecture from Google. It is available for free and as a paid version called “ChatGPT Plus”.
- Other companies such as Google, Baidu, and Meta are also developing their own competitive products, including Bard, Ernie Bot, and LLaMA.
OpenAI
- OpenAI is an American organization that was created in 2015. Its main objective is to research artificial intelligence and develop highly advanced computer systems that can perform valuable tasks better than humans.
- This type of computer system is called Artificial General Intelligence or AGI. OpenAI focuses on developing AGI that is safe and beneficial for everyone.
- The organization was founded by a group of people, including Ilya Sutskever, Greg Brockman, Trevor Blackwell, and Vicki Cheung.
- Sam Altman and Elon Musk were members of the board in the beginning. Currently, CEO of OpenAI is Sam Altman.
