Tata Advanced Systems Limited launched high-resolution satellite TSAT-1A into low Earth orbit. This satellite was launched on 7 April 2024 by SpaceX’s rocket Falcon 9 from Kennedy Space Center, Florida (USA). SpaceX American The company is owned by industrialist Elon Musk. TSAT-1A has been developed by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) in collaboration with Satellogic, the world’s leading provider of high-resolution satellite imagery. It is assembled at TASL’s Vemagal facility in Karnataka. It is India’s first private satellite to monitor the Earth.

Features of TSAT-1A

  • It has been deployed in low Earth orbit.
  • Its weight is less than 50 kg.
  • This satellite will provide high resolution optical quality images.
  • It is a sub-meter resolution Earth observation satellite.
  • Sub meter resolution means that the image produced by the satellite sensor will be able to capture an area that is less than 1×1 meter in size.
  • It can capture images of 0.5-0.6-metre x0.5-0.6-metre area.
  • It has the capability of 0.5-0.8 meter resolution which can be increased to 0.5-0.6-meter super resolution using software.
  • It has multispectral and hyperspectral capabilities, which will send high quality images.

  • Due to its ability to take pictures of less than 1×1 meter area of the Earth, this satellite is considered very useful for the army.
