Streep, who won the Best Actress prize at Cannes in 1989, will attend the opening ceremony of the 77th edition Cannes Film Festival.
Previously, the Cannes honorary Palme d’Or was presented to Jeanne Moreau, Marco Bellocchio, Catherine Deneuve, Jean-Pierre Leaud, Jane Fonda, Agnes Varda, Forest Whitaker, and Jodie Foster.
Palme d’Or is the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. It was introduced in 1955 by the festival’s organizing committee.
It is considered one of the film industry’s most prestigious awards.
