Government of India, in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has launched a transformative project in Bihar. The Bihar Roads Project aims to upgrade about 265 km of state highways with climate and disaster resistant design and road safety elements.The Bihar Roads Project is a significant initiative, and the financial commitment is equally noteworthy. The Government of India and ADB have signed an agreement for a $295 million loan to finance this infrastructure transformation.

Upgradation of State Highways

  • With a loan of $295 million, the project aims to upgrade approximately 265 km of state highways. The focus has been on widening these roads to standard two-lane width, thereby facilitating smooth traffic flow and increasing transport efficiency in the state.
  • Additionally, the project aims to incorporate climate and disaster-resilient designs in the upgraded highways, thereby ensuring preparedness of the area to deal with adverse weather conditions.

Improve road safety
