- In his illustrious career as a journalist, he also served as the General Secretary of the Editors Guild of India and a member of the Press Council.
- In 2007, He was the General Secretary of the Editors Guild of India and the Chairman of the Lok Sabha Press Advisory Committee in 2009.
- Karnataka Media Academy also honoured Mr Murthy for his contribution to journalism.
