¨
Parakram Diwas is celebrated every year on January 23rd in India. This
day commemorates the birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter Netaji
Subhas Chandra Bose.
¨ Parakram means courage, valor, and determination—and
Netaji's entire life was a symbol of these values. His life is an inspiring
story of patriotism, sacrifice, and indomitable courage.
¨ Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was born on
January 23, 1897, in Cuttack (present-day Odisha). From childhood, he was
brilliant, disciplined, and deeply patriotic. He received his education from
Calcutta University and later passed the Indian Civil Service (ICS)
examination.
¨ However, distressed by the country's
subjugation, he resigned from his prestigious job and plunged into the freedom
struggle. This decision reflects his great character and dedication to the
nation.
¨ Netaji believed that India could achieve
independence not only through non-violent movements but also through a strong
and organized struggle. He infused new energy into the countrymen with his
powerful slogan, "Give me blood, and I shall give you freedom.
¨
" During World War II, he formed the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian
National Army) and gave the slogan "Jai Hind," which remains a symbol
of the country's pride and honor even today.
