- The Defense Ministry has signed an MoU with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to promote the use of millets and promote healthy eating practices among the armed forces and ensure safe and nutritious food.
- It aims to create awareness among personnel about dietary diversity and nutritional benefits of millet-based food products.
- FSSAI is a statutory body established under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
- Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, FSSAI definitely works to control adulteration in food items and ensures food safety. The full name of FSSAI is Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, which is called Indian Food in Hindi. And called the Standards Authority.
Scope of FSSAI
- The main work of FSSAI is to make guidelines related to food items and to ensure that the rules made by it are being followed or not. FSSAI looks into the issues related to food items of various ministries and departments of the Central Government and State Governments.
- Apart from this, it also monitors the standards of production and distribution of food items on a large scale and under the control of various ministries.
There are three types of FSSAI license in India
1- Basic FSSAI License (Basic FSSAI License)
- These are meant for micro and small scale industries which are generally given for one to five years. This is for those whose annual income is less than Rs 12 lakh.
2- State FSSAI License
- It is for middle class producers and sellers whose annual income is more than 12 lakhs. This is also given for one year to five years.
3- Central FSSAI License
- This is for those food traders whose annual income is above 20 crores.
- To register FSSAI license it is necessary to have an e-mail id and phone number. Spell your name correctly in your application and submit it. After that application you will be given your own separate ID which will be necessary for further process.
- At the end you have to pay a specified amount. Prepare and submit a demand draft along with the copy of your application form and payment amount.
