  • National Handloom Day is celebrated every year on 7th August to honor the handloom weavers in the country and to promote the handloom industry of India.
  • Handloom is an important part of the cultural heritage of our India or rather it is an identity.
  • The main purpose of celebrating Handloom Day is to promote small and medium scale industries. Apart from this, Handloom Day is also celebrated with the aim of honoring the weaving community and appreciating their contribution to the socio-economic development of India.

History of handloom

  • In the year 1905, Lord Curzon announced the partition of Bengal. On this day, the Swadeshi Movement was started with a great public meeting in the Town Hall of Kolkata.
  • In memory of this incident, National Handloom Day is celebrated every year on 7th August. The day was started by the Prime Minister on August 7, 2015. Since then this day is celebrated every year.
