On April 5, 1919, the 'SS Loyalty'—the first indigenous merchant vessel of the
'Scindia Steam Navigation Company Ltd.'—set sail from Mumbai for London.
¨ Objective: To raise awareness regarding maritime trade and to honor the contributions of the Merchant Navy.
¨ Award: On this occasion, an award named "Varuna" is presented for outstanding work in the maritime sector.
