on April 14, 1891, into a Marathi family in a village in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh.

Ramji Maloji Sakpal, and his mother's name was Bhimabai. Bhimrao Ambedkar
Jayanti is also celebrated as 'Equality and Knowledge Day.'

has declared April 14—Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's birthday—a public holiday. Dr. B.R.
Ambedkar was the architect of the Indian Constitution, and the country already
celebrates his birthday every year as 'Ambedkar Jayanti.'

Babasaheb Ambedkar's
original name was Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.
¨ His father, Ramji Sakpal,
was a Subedar in the Army, and his mother, Bhimabai Sakpal, was a homemaker.

Mumbai in 1897, and Babasaheb enrolled in Elphinstone High School. After
matriculating, he gained admission to Elphinstone College in 1907.

He earned a degree in
Economics and Political Science from the University of Bombay in 1912.
Babasaheb Ambedkar was a renowned social reformer and a Dalit icon; he spoke
out unequivocally against inequality, injustice, and discrimination faced by
members of the Dalit community.
¨ Babasaheb Ambedkar passed
away on December 6, 1956. In 1990, he was posthumously awarded the Bharat
Ratna—India's highest civilian honor.
