Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was killed in a suicide terrorist attack during an
election rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.

Following this tragic
incident, the Government of India declared 21 May as National Anti-Terrorism
Day to honour his sacrifice and to highlight the country’s commitment to fight
terrorism.
