site of historical significance located in the Madhubani district of Bihar.

initiative is to gain deeper insights into ancient civilizations and to
strengthen the understanding of the region's early cultural and administrative
centers.
Location and Historical Significance
¨ Balirajgarh is situated
in the Madhubani district of Bihar and holds both mythological and
archaeological significance. According to local traditions, the site is
associated with King Bali—a great ruler in Indian mythology—and is believed to
have served as his capital.
¨ Historically, the site
served as a prominent administrative hub of the ancient Videha Kingdom, which
played a pivotal role in early Indian civilization.
Archaeological Findings and Cultural
Layers
¨ The site underwent multiple rounds of excavation between 1962 and 2014. These excavations yielded artifacts belonging to various cultural periods, including the era of Northern Black Polished Ware (NBPW), as well as the Shunga, Kushana, Gupta, and later Pala periods
¨ These findings attest to a history of continuous habitation and cultural evolution spanning several centuries, thereby establishing Balirajgarh as a crucial site for understanding ancient Indian history.
