The National Productivity
Council (NPC) celebrated its 68th Foundation Day on February 12, 2026. National
Productivity Week will also be celebrated across the country from February 12
to 18, 2026.
¨
This year's theme is
"Clusters as Engines of Growth: Maximizing Productivity in MSMEs."
Its primary objective is to empower micro, small, and medium enterprises
(MSMEs) through a cluster-based development model.
¨
This initiative aims to
strengthen the MSME sector as a strong base for economic growth by promoting
productivity, competitiveness, and innovation.
Cluster-based development
¨
creates economies of
scale,
¨
improves supply chain
integration,
¨
promotes the adoption of
new technologies,
¨
enhances export potential
and global competitiveness.
This strategy has become particularly important
following recent international trade agreements, as it helps make MSMEs
competitive in the global marketplace.
Role of the National Productivity Council (NPC)
¨ The National Productivity Council was established in 1958. It functions as an autonomous body under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
