¨   The theme for World Food Safety Day 2026 is "From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere." This theme emphasizes the need to utilize data regarding the impact of foodborne illnesses and to implement effective solutions globally.

History of World Food Safety Day

¨  Observed every year on June 7, World Food Safety Day is dedicated to raising awareness and preventing illnesses caused by contaminated food. It was initiated by the United Nations to reduce foodborne risks and promote safe diets.

¨ History and Establishment Proposal (2016–2017): The Codex Alimentarius Commission and the Government of Costa Rica, in collaboration with the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), worked towards gaining international recognition for this day.

¨  Declaration (2018): Based on the recommendation of the FAO and WHO, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) officially declared June 7 as 'World Food Safety Day' in December 2018.
