Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the FAO Agricola Medal

¨     Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the FAO Agricola Medal on 20 May 2026.

¨     The award ceremony was held at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy.

¨     The medal was presented by FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu in the FAO Plenary Hall.

¨     The Agricola Medal is one of the highest honours of the Food and Agriculture Organization.

¨     The award recognises contributions in agricultural transformation, food security, sustainable agriculture, and rural development.

¨     FAO is a specialised agency of the United Nations established in 1945.

¨     The headquarters of FAO is located in Rome.

¨     FAO works in the areas of food security, nutrition, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and rural development.

¨     India’s initiatives highlighted by FAO included financial inclusion for farmers.

¨     More than 110 million farmers received direct income support in India.

¨     India runs the world’s largest food-based social safety net covering around 800 million people.

¨     India also promoted millets globally through the International Year of Millets 2023.
