Adani Green Energy Limited launched a cumulative 3.37 gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system in Khavda, Gujarat

¨     Adani Green Energy Limited launched a cumulative 3.37 gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system in Khavda, Gujarat, on 26 May 2026.

¨     The installation is regarded as the world’s largest single-location battery storage deployment outside China.

¨     It also includes an additional 1.37 gigawatt-hour capacity commissioned in March 2026.

¨     A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) stores electricity in rechargeable batteries for later use.

¨     Large-scale BESS projects use lithium-ion battery technology.

¨     Such systems also include power conversion systems and energy management systems.

¨     BESS is used for grid support, frequency control, and peak load management.

¨     Khavda is a major renewable energy project located in Gujarat.

¨     The project is associated with large-scale solar and wind energy development.

¨     The current operational BESS capacity at Khavda is 3.37 gigawatt-hours.

¨     The project was completed within 10 months of the start of construction.

¨     The 3.37 gigawatt-hour system can store enough clean energy to supply electricity to around one million homes for one day.

¨   The system can also meet the peak electricity demand of cities such as Indore and Chandigarh.

¨     It is capable of meeting the peak power demand of the entire state of Goa as well.
