¨     Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced a regional investment plan worth $70 billion.

¨     Objective: To strengthen power and digital connectivity within the Asia-Pacific region.

¨     The announcement was made by Masato Kanda.

¨     This announcement took place during the ADB's 59th Annual Meeting.

¨     The meeting was held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

The plan consists of two key components

¨     The $50 billion Pan-Asia Power Grid Initiative

¨     The $20 billion Asia-Pacific Digital Highway

¨     The focus of both programs is to develop cross-border infrastructure.

¨     Objective: To foster regional cooperation and economic growth.

Key Goals of the Pan-Asia Power Grid Initiative

¨     To interconnect approximately 20 gigawatts of renewable energy across various countries by 2035.

¨     To develop transmission lines spanning approximately 22,000 circuit-kilometers.

¨     To provide improved electricity access to nearly 200 million people.

¨     The project is expected to create approximately 840,000 jobs by 2035.

¨     The goal is to reduce carbon emissions in the regional power sector by up to 15%.
