Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh Script History with India's First-Ever Judo Golds at the 2026 Commonwealth Games

¨     Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh created history by winning India’s first-ever judo gold medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on 31 July 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland.

¨     The medals were won at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) during the judo competitions of the Commonwealth Games 2026.

¨     Judo became part of the Commonwealth Games programme in 1990.

¨     Before 31 July 2026, India had won 11 judo medals at the Commonwealth Games, including five silver medals and six bronze medals, but had never won a gold medal.

¨     In the women’s 48kg category, Asmita Dey won the gold medal by defeating Canada’s Heidi Quach by 2-1 in a golden score contest.

¨     Asmita Dey became the first Indian judoka to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal.

¨     She is 23 years old and belongs to Tripura.

¨     In the men’s 60kg category, Harsh Singh won the gold medal after defeating Australia’s Joshua Katz by 10-0 through waza-ari.

¨     Harsh Singh became the first male judoka from India to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal.

¨     He is also 23 years old and participated in his first Commonwealth Games in 2026.
