¨     The Assam state government has announced a new financial assistance scheme, marking a significant welfare measure for its tea garden communities.
¨     The Assam government has launched the Mukhya Mantrir Eti Koli Duti Paat Scheme, which will provide one-time financial assistance to tea garden workers across the state.
¨     This initiative recognizes the historical contribution of tea workers to Assam's economy and aims to strengthen social security, dignity, and inclusive development in the tea-producing regions.
Scheme Launch and Political Leadership
¨     The scheme was launched by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Doomdooma, Tinsukia district.
¨     The Chief Minister described the initiative as a tribute to the tea tribes and indigenous communities whose labor has sustained Assam's world-renowned tea industry.
¨     He also clarified that adequate budgetary provisions have been made for the smooth and timely distribution of benefits.
One-Time Financial Assistance for Tea Workers
¨     Under the Eti Koli Duti Paat Scheme, an amount exceeding ₹300 crore will be distributed.
¨     Over 6 lakh tea garden workers will receive a one-time assistance of ₹5,000 each.
¨     The beneficiaries include both permanent and casual workers employed in 836 tea gardens spread across 27 districts and 73 assembly constituencies.
¨     The scheme aims to provide immediate financial relief and reinforce the state's commitment to worker welfare.
