Bangladesh Nears Nuclear Power Era with Fuel Loading at Rooppur Plant

¨     Bangladesh has taken a major step in its energy sector.

¨     Uranium fuel loading has begun at Unit-1 of the Rooppur nuclear plant.

¨     This is the final major step before nuclear power generation begins.

¨     Bangladesh is close to becoming the 33rd country to produce nuclear energy.

¨     The project will strengthen energy security.

¨     It will help reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

¨     It will promote clean and sustainable energy.

¨     After fuel loading, Nuclear Fission will begin.

¨     Several safety tests will be conducted before power generation.

¨     Around 300 MW electricity may be supplied to the grid by August 2026 (trial basis).

¨     Full commercial operation may take about 10 months.

¨     Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is the country’s largest infrastructure project.

¨     It is operated by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission.

¨     Technical and financial support is provided by Rosatom.

¨     The plant has 2 units.

¨     Each unit has a capacity of 1,200 MW.

¨     Total installed capacity is 2,400 MW.
