Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has passed away

¨     Uttarakhand’s former Chief Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri passed away in Dehradun on 19 May 2026 at the age of 91.

¨     He was a retired Major General in the Indian Army.

¨     He served two terms as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand from 2007 to 2009 and again from 2011 to 2012.

¨     Khanduri represented the Garhwal parliamentary constituency in the 16th Lok Sabha.

¨     He also served as the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

¨     Before entering full-time politics, he held the rank of Major General in the Indian Army.

¨     In public life, he was popularly known as “General Sahab.”

¨     The Golden Quadrilateral is a national highway network project in India connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata.

¨  The project was launched to improve road connectivity among major industrial and cultural centres of the country.
