He was a senior leader of
the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He was a retired Major
General in the Indian Army.

He was popularly known as
“General Sahab” in public life.

He served as Chief
Minister of Uttarakhand for two terms.
¨
His first term as Chief
Minister was from 2007 to 2009.
¨
His second term was from
2011 to 2012.
¨
He represented the
Garhwal parliamentary constituency in the 16th Lok Sabha.
¨
He also served as Union
Minister for Road Transport and Highways under Prime Minister Atal Bihari
Vajpayee.
