Delhi Government approved two heritage conservation schemes for 75 monuments under its Archaeology Department

¨     On 30 June 2026, the Delhi Government approved two heritage conservation schemes for 75 monuments under its Archaeology Department.

¨     The schemes apply to monuments protected under the Delhi Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 2004 and outside the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

¨     The Delhi Chief Minister Monument Adoption Scheme allows private organisations, educational institutions, NGOs, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and individuals to participate through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

¨     Under this scheme, "Monument Mitras" can adopt monuments for five years.

¨     Monument Mitras will fund and maintain visitor amenities such as cleanliness, security, lighting, and other basic facilities.

¨     The Grant-in-Aid Scheme for Conservation, Restoration and Development Works of Monuments provides financial assistance of up to ₹2 crore to eligible and specialised institutions.

¨     The grant covers conservation, restoration, structural repair, and other technical works for heritage monuments under the Delhi Government's protection.

¨     The adoption list includes the Mirza Ghalib Haveli, Bhuli Bhatiyari ka Mahal, Mutiny Memorial, and the Dara Shikoh Library Building.

¨     The government estimates annual maintenance savings of around ₹4.5 lakh per monument through the Monument Adoption Scheme.
