Water and Sanitation, under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, organised a national
workshop in New Delhi on 20 August 2026 for capacity-building under Jal Jeevan
Mission 2.0.

The workshop was titled
“Multi-Stakeholder Consultation on Capacity Building under Jal Jeevan Mission
2.0 for GPs, VWSCs and Sujalam Shakti Groups.”
¨
Jal Jeevan Mission is a
Government of India programme aimed at providing drinking water supply to rural
households.
¨
The mission works through
village-level institutions such as Gram Panchayats (GPs) and Village Water and
Sanitation Committees (VWSCs) for planning, operation and local management of
water-supply systems.
¨
Participants reviewed the
content, teaching methods and field applicability of training modules prepared
for field-level functionaries.
¨
The training modules
covered Gram Panchayat representatives and other local stakeholders involved in
rural water-supply management.
¨
Key capacity-building
areas included source sustainability, water-quality monitoring, operation and
maintenance, financial management and community participation.
¨
Source sustainability
focuses on ensuring the long-term availability of adequate water in rural
areas.
¨
Water-quality monitoring
aims to ensure the availability of safe and clean drinking water.
¨
Operation and maintenance
focuses on the effective functioning and upkeep of rural water-supply systems.
¨ Financial management and
community participation are important for the long-term sustainability of rural
water-supply systems.
¨
These areas form part of
the broader Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) framework.
